Winter Lake Swimming
I posted about this phenomenon before, but here's some footage of WINTER Lake swimming off Promontory Point in Chicago. I've never done it, I doubt I ever will, but I can't help but admire those who do.

Swimming Off The Point
This absolutely lovely story about radio host Maria Hinojosa taking her kids to swim in Lake Michigan off Chicago's Promontory Point is a must listen for all the fellow Lake Lovers out there. I knew a lot of Point Swimmers when I lived in Chicago, though I was never one of them. They are a hearty/hardy bunch.

On New Year's Day
Sorry I'm so late in posting this. A popular activity along the Lake Michigan shoreline (and, no doubt the shores of other lakes in cold areas of the northern hemisphere) is the "Polar Plunge", "Polar Bear Plunge" and the like, on New Years' Day. These guys below, in the thermal wet suits...
...are waiting for these guys/gals, in the birthday suits (with a few accessories).
I was there to watch, and it was COLD just standing outside in the cold with a strong breeze off the Lake. maybe some year I will try this, but this was not that year!
