We are expecting a huge snowstorm in the next 24-48 hours. We begin it with a coating of ice/snow on the lake's surface.
The rippling ice is a site to behold.
At noon, these ominous clouds were looming.
By late afternoon, the low clouds were threatening to burst open. But so far, only flurries. We shall see...
Lake Michigan and Great Lakes news, lore, travel, and more. Plus a daily photo of the Lake.

Gully!
I was listening to something on the radio and wanted to hear the end of it, so rather than driving home and having a "driveway moment" I drove to the park two blocks away to have a "beach moment." As I was sitting there in the car, the seagulls began flying overhead, so I tried to get them on film. Imperfect, and yet perfect at the same time. From Saturday, 1/22/11.

LakemichiBowl
I'm a little late with this, but the just-completed NFC Championship game featured the only two Lake Michigan-bordering teams, playing in the only Lake Michigan-bordering stadium (or any body of water-bordering, at least that I am aware of, in the country). Regardless of the side you chose, this is a significant piece of Lake Michigan news.
Tiny aerial view of the stadium. It really is in a very cool place. Other cities wish their stadiums were half this cool.

On New Year's Day
Sorry I'm so late in posting this. A popular activity along the Lake Michigan shoreline (and, no doubt the shores of other lakes in cold areas of the northern hemisphere) is the "Polar Plunge", "Polar Bear Plunge" and the like, on New Years' Day. These guys below, in the thermal wet suits......are waiting for these guys/gals, in the birthday suits (with a few accessories).
I was there to watch, and it was COLD just standing outside in the cold with a strong breeze off the Lake. maybe some year I will try this, but this was not that year!
