Blue Moon to Gray Day

Last year on New Year's Eve we had this, in stark and beautiful contrast to today's gloomy fog. Or I could look at the picture above and see mystery and a dreary kind of majesty in the fog-cloaked Lake. Happy New Year!

Early Icing

I can't believe we have visible ice already!
I went back to the last two years' December pics, and there's no visible ice. There was a film of ice in the morning that burned off later in the day on one post. But that was it. How can we have late leaves and early ice about a month apart? (This was taken at 1:30pm, btw. Plenty of time for the sun to burn it off, if it weren't so cold.)

Another Rosy View

I took this photo for the look of the water's surface, but the horizon stole the show. From yesterday, 12/14/10.

400!

I was going to title it "Beam Me Up!" but then I realized that this is the 400th post on Lakemichiblog. Wow. Thanks for being such a loyal audience!

Note the steam rising from the (relatively) warm Lake into the cold air.

Sheen

This strange combination of brown water and light creates a blue-gray sheen on the wave troughs. That plus the roaring waves made for entertaining Lake viewing all day yesterday, 12/13/10.

First Clinging Snow

After a long delay, Winter is here, with the cold and snow it requires. There is a bit clinging to the crook of this tree. Just looking at it makes me cold.

Bank On It

I love the shades of gray in this pic, especially the cloud bank on the horizon, and the delicate blue just above it. From Friday, 12/3/10.

Smattering

Referring to the clouds along the horizon. The leaves are gone! From Thursday, 12/2/10.

Cool Color

Caught this just as the sun was setting today. Plus: we got a little bit of snow! But not enough to photograph.

Tuesday Morning

Tuesday Morning. That is all. From 11/30/10.
