Happy 100th!

This lovely pic is in celebration of the 100th post on LakeMichiblog. Thanks for joining me here in appreciation of our inland sea, with many more daily pics to come!

No, you are not paranoid...

A perfectly innocent ice floe sits out there, several hundred feet from shore. Nothing alarming about that.
20 minutes later it's closer, but it is still keeping a a polite distance.

Next thing you know, it's lapping at the shoreline. I expect tomorrow there will be a big pile-up of shore ice. Just in time for the 100th post! See you tomorrow.

Glassy

Wow! look at that shine! This is from the morning.
And this is from the afternoon. If you squint, you can see a big white ship out there, among the ice floes.

The Sound and the Fury

Apologies to both Faulkner and Shakespeare, but the Lake is in a MOOD today--big swelling waves, laden with collected snowfall, crashing into the rocks on the shore. Now the snow is coming down harder and visibility is much lower than when I took these earlier.

Vast

We are experiencing an eerie calm now, as we're about to get dumped by 4-8 inches of snow (which should make for interesting pics tomorrow, so stay tuned). The Lake seems very large and foreboding, like a sleeping giant about to wake up. So I went outside to take this and try to capture that feeling.

Very Glare-y

The best photo showing the waves from this morning is also the glariest. Oh, well. The Lake, as you can see, is brown today, and loud, and the waves (at least earlier this morning) were high.

Fast and Flurryous

Oh, the puns you can make with the word flurry! Even if snow flurries can't be captured with a low speed camera.
