Out Like a Lion

A FIERCE lion. Very wavy and turbulent today.

And with this post, I am officially caught up and March is officially over. Now I can fall behind again.

Winter Returns

If only briefly. Four wet, heavy inches of snow on Sunday, melting quickly as Monday wore on. Note the band of deep blue at the horizon.

Shaded Hues

I love the colors in this shot.

What a sky!

Catching up from last week. Those are Simpsons quality clouds, right there.

Caribbean? Or Midwest?

To me, this looks like clear water over a white sand bar. Except 35 degrees instead of 80 degrees.

Still Wavy

Check out that sky! From Tuesday, 3/24.

Strong waves

Still blogged up

Grrrr. That's all I have to say. Pics soon, I hope.

All Blogged up

I'm trying to post photos of a fantastically angry Lake, but blogger won't let me. Maybe tomorrow.

Icehenge

Note tiny little arch-like ice formation near the center of this snapshot. This is what is left of the ice on the Lake, as the weather is turning warmer. The water is very still and blue today.

All clear? Not quite.

This morning it looked like the Lake was finally clear of ice, if not birds: But by the afternoon, the ice donuts were back, if a bit thinned out.
It is supposed to warm up this weekend, so maybe it will be gone on Monday.

Early Birds

This was taken about 8am. The black specks are sleeping geese with their heads tucked under their wings.

Cloudy sky, Cloudy waters

These chunks of ice were floating around all day yesterday (Blogger would not let me upload a second post yesterday, but these pics are from the 11th). They looked like clouds in the water. And here I have all my geese in a row:

Tundra Tiger

My Paint skills leave something to be desired, but that red circle is meant to point out our resident wildlife strolling the shoreline this afternoon. I've seen this little kitty around, and she looks well-fed but is skittish. I don't know her story (or even if she's not a he) but it's clear she is also appreciative of the lake.

White Out

That's it today. White snow on the Lake, white sky, but not a flake of snow on the ground. Interesting contrast.

Berglets

Little icebergs, floating around out there today.
Ranging far and wide.
Creating ice cliffs at the shoreline.

Yesterday's ice fields

This is what happened shortly after yesterday's post. The whole lake filled up with ice/snow.
Like a smooth field of ice/snow, as far as the eye could see, but on land, it was just raining all day, not a flake of snow anywhere.

So much for spring...

The ice is back... ...and getting closer....
...and closer....
That cool round ice is back, too. Looks like donuts or lifesavers or lilypads.
Perfect weather for a Sunday afternoon at work.

I Got Plenty of Nothin'....

Can you imagine a duller picture? You can!
It is rainy and grey, gray, and GREY! today. Lucky me, in the office to enjoy it on a Saturday.

But hey, here are some Canada geese from yesterday afternoon, since you were nice enough to visit.

Then and now

Yesterday around 3pm

Wednesday afternoon.

Today at 4pm.

This morning, 9am. (I meant for this to be the third pic, but I don't know how to switch them around once they have been posted.)

Ice rounds

This may be the last ice-titled post for a long while, as the ice is now rapidly retreating/melting in our balmy 40+ degree weather. Aren't these round pieces of ice interesting?
I like this one, tilted perpendicular to the water's surface and the other ice rounds.

Here's a last look at an icy shoreline, much of which is melted now, at the end of the day.

Still Icy

Almost looks like water, but that is the same piled up ice/snow, with sun glinting off broken ice pieces.
Looks less like water here.

Here's the shoreline.
Ice closeup.

Twice as Ice

In the morning, the ice was away from the shore, but....
...crept up to the shore by afternoon. Still amazingly calm and still, though. No strong waves, just subtle, slow moves.

Solid Cold

This pic goes with this post.
A recap:
We have a big pile up of snow and ice on the Lake, as far as the eye can see. It looks like it might be solid, but with rough snow piled up, as if you could walk all the way to the open water (though I'm sure it is NOT solid). There appears to be open water several hundred yards out, but it's hard to be sure. There have been intermittant snow squalls all day, with spectacular cloud formations and periods of bright sunshine reflecting off the snow/ice. The ice/snow is solid and still, not a whisper of wind or a slight ripple to disturb it.

Lily Pads

This photo (from last Thursday) features ice that reminds of me of a lily-pad choked pond. Only bigger. And colder.

Placeholder

For some reason, Blogger cannot upload photos today. That, combined with my busy schedule last Thursday, being out of the office on Friday, and another crammed full schedule tomorrow, means there won't be any photos for nearly a week. (I will try to catch up with them, eventually, as they are choice ones).

Which is a shame, since things are very interesting outside today.

I'll have pictures when I can.
