New Blue Year

There's a New Year's Eve Blue Moon tonight, a once in a few decades occurance. I'm so glad I was there to watch the moon rise over the clouds. Happy New Year to all! More pics below:

Peek a boo

The sun is desperately trying to get out from under that cloud. Good luck, Sun!

Hunkering down

And I also drove past the harbor on the way to work, and saw all of these geese (and ducks?) hunkering down, trying to stay warm in the newly forming ice.

Too much awesome

I couldn't pick one image from yesterday.
The newly forming ice...
The amazing clouds...
The steam from the warmer Lake meeting the COLD air...

So here they all are. Enjoy.

Cool Cold

Tuesday it started to cool off and lighten up. Cool rays here.

I don't know how to prevent those sunspot reflections on the lens, and I'm not sure I really want to.

This was taken from inside my office--the reflection looks kind of cool in this shot.

Catch Up

This is from Monday, when it was dull and rainy.

Shiny Icy

There was a little bit of ice on top of the water this morning.

It was all melted by 10am.

Primeval

The air is about 0 degrees and the lake is still not frozen. Steamy.

Stormy

Dull and cloudy from Wednesday 12/09. The rest of the Midwest got buried in snow, and we got nada. The warm Lake is making the air too warm for real snow to fall here. I feel cheated!

Not Brown Yet!

Usually, when the Lake gets all roiled up during a storm, the water turns chocolaty brown. So far today it is hanging onto the green with a stripe of blue. The clouds are full of snow, which is falling sparsely, but we expect a whole lot more in the coming hours.

More pretty colors

There are only so many ways to title a post about the colors induced by the setting sun. But here are some more of those pretty pics, anyway. From Monday, 12/7/09.

Morning Light: 4 views

This morning I took the lakefront route to work and took this pic at a park near my home.
Here is the empty harbor boatslip at sunrise
And the lovely tree at about 11am
Also 11am--just a perspective shift to the left.

Though the Weather Outside is Frightful...

The cyber-warmth is so delightful....

It's snowing pretty hard. This picture was taken just as it started--you can barely see the horizon right now. I'm ready for winter, so this is okay by me.

Afternoon glow

I like that warm glow on the horizon almost as much as I like this tree. It looks good in every photo.
